About Jessica...
Jessica was born just over 8 years ago and was our
first child.
She had been a normal pregnancy up until the 34th week, when she turned
breech. She was born by Caesar and had high Apgar scores.
As a baby she was very restless and would cry for hours and only sleep for
half and hour to an hour at a time.
When I asked the paediatrician and the health nurses if there was something
wrong, they treated me as if I was a fool. It was not until Jessica was
about 9 months old that the paediatrician took me seriously and when we
provided him with video footage of Jessica having these “startle reflexes”.
A few days later he rang to say that Jessica had
Infantile Spasms and the prognosis was extremely poor. Not once did he
mention that it was epilepsy.
Looking at her now some 8 years later it is easy to
miss the achievements that she has made. She can walk, talk and feed
herself. All things that we were told that she would not be able to achieve.
She loves Hi 5 and going to school and cooking.
